Principal Message

Hello Neil Cummins Community,

On Thursday 8/11 our NC staff took part of our day to expand and unpack our school wide expectations together: Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, Take Care of this Place. During our professional development our goal was to create grade level language that is developmentally appropriate for different age ranges. We took that language across all six grade levels and created common language and expectations  that we can use in each classroom and across our entire school community.

Many other actions, character traits, and emotions fall under our umbrella terms and we will continue to recognize them even though they may not specifically be written out at this time. We are committed to use our school wide expectations and our new areas of focus to guide our Social Emotional Learning, Charter Development, and Positive Citizenship work this school year.  Some of this language may feel new to some students. Our teachers, counselor, and staff will teach and reteach these focus points throughout the school year.

Safety is a top priority whether it is physical, emotional or health related. Direct messaging around what a safe body looks like and sounds like will be addressed in classroom communities and school wide avenues such as videos or school assemblies.
